Moores Seeds: A Century of Quality, Community, and Growth

Established in 1916, Moores Seeds has seen a few changes in ownership, but has never wavered in their commitment to quality and community.

Ralph Moore & Sons was established in 1916 as a family farm in Norwich. In the early years, dairy and vegetable farming were the main focus. However, in 1939 the opportunity to grow spray millet on the farm arose due to a supply shortage from France during WWII, caused by the war. Spray millet continues to be the main focus of the business today. In the 1940’s birdseed mixes were added to the production of spray millet, to diversify the products offered.

Moores Seeds has gone through a couple ownership changes after the Moore family retired in 2009. The traditions and dedication to quality, however, have not wavered, but have only been enhanced. They practice a commitment to sustainable and responsible farming practices which not only protects the environment but also ensures the highest quality products you can trust. These agricultural practices give back to the soil instead of depleting them. “There is minimal disruption to the soil, and nutrients are put back into the soil,” says Andrea.

Moores Seeds’ location has changed a couple of times, as well. Originally in Norwich, the company moved to Otterville for a time, but now calls Tillsonburg home. Having moved to the Bell Mill Side Road location in Tillsonburg in March, the Vermeersch family have been busy making their vision a reality.

Moores Seeds tries to grow as much as possible themselves, with most of the balance of their product coming from local farms. The remainder is still Canadian made, coming from Manitoba or Saskatchewan. When purchasing their products you can be happy to know that you are supporting local farmers and reducing carbon emissions associated with transportation, while also ensuring fresher and more nutritious food for your fine feathered friends. Moores maintains a reputation for quality, clean seed, and keeps it local.

They also like to find local businesses and display their products. For example, Moores sells Kernel Peanut, a local company south of Simcoe, and Uncle Bob’s popcorn and seasonings. In addition to made-in-house seed mixes and bulk peanuts and sunflower seeds, Moores also sells various types and styles of bird feeders, bird houses, and bird baths, and an assortment of livestock products, such as feeders, shovels, chicken wire, and vitamins and minerals. As well, they are also now stocking livestock feed, including chicken, duck, goat, and cow feed.

Already open to the public, Moores is thrilled to announce the grand opening of their brand new showroom at 1392 Bell Mill Side Road, in Tillsonburg. Save the date for Saturday, August 30th, 2025, 8:00am – 5:00pm and join them for a day of celebration of this new chapter of their story. Why not explore their new space and enjoy a variety of complimentary offerings, such as refreshments, free samples, and door prizes?
