January 2025 is approaching, and the first three months of the new year has multiple farm shows available for producers interested in learning and networking. In January, for example, is the series of Ontario Agricultural Conferences. They start on Jan. 7 and 8 with the Southwest Agriculture Conference at the University of Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus. This two-day event will include discussions on factors that drive 100 bu. soybeans, the top disease issues of 2024 including tar spot, and how to set up your farm to add winter canola into your crop mix. January 2025 is approaching, and the first three months of the new year has multiple...

Based in Lakeside, Sunova WorX , a sister company to Sunova Implement, came about as an inspiration from John van Lierop watching his father in law climb in and out of his tanker tractor to the pump tractor to fill the manure tank. Looking for a simpler and more efficient manner to do this, John was inspired and he and his design team developed the Broadcaster 1 for tanker fill and small drag-hosing applications. Due to customer demand, and seeing the benefit of these systems, John then went on to develop the Broadcaster 2, a multi pump system which is designed for larger pumping applications. The Broadcaster 1+, released in September 2020, further focuses on the main aspects of liquid pumping, enhancing safety and efficiency, as control systems must be safe, flexible, reliable and durable, changing to meet the ever evolving demands of the industries they serve. These remote control systems, which are to be installed on engine pump units, remotely control the engine and allow for the use of a web portal to log in and see the vitals of the engine pump units and other machines. This portal can be monitored and controlled on your cellular device, your computer, ipad, or tablet through a web browser, at any time, no matter where you are. It is user friendly, and strives for simplicity and efficiency. It offers one real-time feedback on the system so that they are in control. As John states, “The web portal is flexible, open, and scalable to many different industries,” making it invaluable to our business and our customers. As with Sunova Implement, SunovaWorX experienced success abroad before at home. A smaller company is not always taken seriously, even when its principles are sound. However, with strong work ethics and dedication, SunovaWorX soon scaled the barriers and is becoming the go-to for many businesses. Dealing with rising energy costs was first identified by Ontario Federation of Agriculture members as the second biggest priority for farm businesses behind reducing farm tax burdens in the OFA Farm Business Confidence Survey released earlier this year. When asked to identify the biggest energy issue limiting their business’ growth or efficiency during a live poll at the annual general meeting, just under half selected affordability, followed by approximately 30 per cent who pointed to lack of infrastructure, such as access to three-phase power or natural gas as their biggest limiting factor.
