Not every Discover Rural Oxford feature involves food or farm products — and Transition Acres is proof that some of the county’s most meaningful offerings come on four legs.
Located just outside Tavistock, Transition Acres is an equine-assisted wellness and learning experience built around personal growth, leadership, and emotional well-being. Owner Alisha Wilson has grown a herd that now includes a newest addition, Buttons, and uses that herd to create programs that go well beyond a typical farm visit.
Transition Acres offers programming for all ages, from summer camps for kids to meaningful, calming visits with long-term care residents. Their services also include Reiki and specialty wellness events, including their popular Cowgirl Kickback — an experience that’s been recognized as one of Ontario’s Southwest’s signature experiences.
At Discover Rural Oxford, running September 15–17, 2026 in the Rural Pavilion at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show, visitors will get the chance to meet some of the herd in person, learn more about the full range of programs Transition Acres offers, and pick up some of their hair, skincare, and all-natural horse fly spray.
