Breaking Elements Dance Company-A Passion for Dance

Dancer and choreographer Martha Graham once said, “Great dancers are great because of their passion.”

The passion of their dance teachers both equals and surpasses this. It is this passion that set Brooklyn Ross and Emma Haggit onto the path of opening their own dance studio, Breaking Elements Dance Company, in Tavistock. Opening March 18th, 2025, classes have been in session since September 2024, taking place first at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tavistock, and currently at Memorial Hall. Renovations have been taking place to create a welcoming space at their new home in the old Francis Building. The Grand Opening is set to take place in April, so stay tuned!

As luck would have it, both Brooklyn and Emma were teaching at the same dance company, and both discovered a shared interest in opening their own dance company. Having shared interests and backgrounds, both Brooklyn and Emma set to building a dream that would share their passion with countless dancers and their families.

It is this family atmosphere that was so important to them that led to Tavistock. As well, in the immediate surrounding areas, there aren’t any other dance companies, so the need was evident. More importantly, the small town family vibe in Tavistock is exactly what Brooklyn and Emma had envisioned for their dance company.

The space in the old Francis building encompasses the vision that Brooklyn and Emma put forth. They were able to fully design their dream, as the space was an empty canvas waiting for them. Having heard about the building being available from a mutual friend of Brooklyn’s and Nick Hendry, one of the new owners of the building, they were able to work with Nick to create their dance space.

In this space, Breaking Elements will have classes for children 1 ½ years old and up. There will be classes such as Kinder Dance, Combo classes, Jazz, Ballet, Acro, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Tumbling. Adult classes are available as well, with 6 week programs running with alternating dance styles.

Summer classes are being offered as well, with registration having already begun. There will be 5 week-long camps, as well as 2 weeks of summer intensives classes, for children 4-17 years interested in competitive classes. “Auditions for competitive classes will take place June 7th, 2025, after a Competitive Information Night is held (on April 26th, 2025).” Register today, as classes are sure to fill quickly!

Having started with 20 students in September, Breaking Elements currently houses 50 students! Brooklyn and Emma are grateful for the positive word of mouth references their current families have offered to their friends and families. After all, this atmosphere is exactly what they truly love about Tavistock.
