The name Amessna is made up of three daughters' names — Amanda, Jessica, and Fiona. The business behind it is built the same way: with family, community, and a long view in mind.

Kevin and Claudia Weeden's company has deep roots in Oxford County, from Hybrid Turkeys to a globally-sold poultry sprinkler system, to a 24,000-square-foot commercial and industrial property on Highway 59 in Hickson that's now ready for the next chapter.

Miedema's Meat Market has been part of the Embro community since the early 1900s. Brent Miedema, whose father Leo took over in 1982, has just completed a major expansion — tripling the square footage, adding a new cooler, and dramatically increasing processing capacity at a full-service abattoir that now means "next week" instead of "next year" for bookings.

On Saturday, May 16 from 11 AM–3 PM, Brent and the Miedema family are celebrating with a Grand (Re)Opening Open House and Rib Fest at 129 Huron St., Embro. A commercial eight-pig smoker will be fired up, and a community that has supported this family business across generations is invited to come celebrate.
