In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, there’s something magical about the humble small town cafe-a place where time seems to slow down, and every visitor is treated like family. Little Town Cafe, on Main Street in Norwich, will attempt to do just that. Representative of how Norwich maintains itself as a small, tightknit community, Little Town Cafe wants to welcome you to their new space at 17 Main Street, where the old travel agency was.
Owner Janelle Vrugteveen has enjoyed baking since she was a little girl. She wanted to build a business, and the cafe came as a quick decision. With much appreciated support from her parents and boyfriend, Janelle has transformed the space into a warm, cozy area for patrons to gather, sip a cup of joe, and share stories/discuss events, maintaining certain elements, like the fireplace, to keep a cozy feel and to allow customers to feel at home. “I am so thankful to God for this opportunity, and pray that everyone who walks through these doors might be blessed by a time of peace, fellowship, and the opportunity to take a moment to slow down and appreciate what God has given us.” Janelle says. It will be a sanctuary where connections are made, friendships are forged, and memories are created.
The moment you step inside you will be greeted with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, tasty pastries and baked goods, and the comforting hum of conversation. The soft clink of mugs, the gentle whirr of the espresso machine, and muted conversation will set the tone for a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Community matters, and Little Town Cafe treats each and every patron like family. Behind the counter, the baristas will get to know their customers, who will no doubt become regulars in a cozy cafe that will be the opposite of the sometimes impersonalisation of chain stores. Whether you’re stopping by for a caffeinated pick-me-up, a tasty snack, or a catch up session with a friend, you will be treated with care and appreciated.
More than just a place to grab a coffee, Little Town Cafe will serve as a gathering spot for the local community. A community that has thus far been so supportive, which has been greatly appreciated. “We’ve been blessed by the community,” Janelle gushed gratefully, who have been in full support of her endeavours. To keep busy while the space was being renovated, Janelle operated a small trailer to continue serving her customers. During those six weeks, both coffee and baked goods were offered, and many regulars visited. Janelle was extremely thankful for all the support, and looks forward to seeing everyone at the cafe!

What can you look forward to once the cafe is opened? Well, coffee in all shapes and types of course! Freshly brewed drip coffee, espresso shots, lattes, cappuccinos. The baked goods everyone has come to love-butter tarts anyone?!? As well there will be small breakfast offerings-such as bagels, and eggs, and lunches consisting of soups and sandwiches, to name but a few.
Seasonal offerings will include specialty drinks and baked goods. Little Town Cafe tries to source locally, wherever possible, and a lot of the offerings are made in house. Deliciousness is always better when it’s homemade!
What makes the cafe truly special, though, is not just the amazing food and drink offered. It is their capability to serve a little piece of themselves when they serve you. Their appreciation for their customers. The atmosphere that welcomes you the moment you even think of going. It’s not just about serving a great cup of coffee; it’s about creating a space where people feel comfortable to be themselves, where conversations flow freely, and where even strangers can become friends. Regulars here know each other well, but newcomers are always welcomed with open arms and treated as if they’ve been there their whole lives.
In an era where speed and efficiency often take precedence, this small town cafe reminds us of the importance of slowing down and smelling the roses, er, coffee….of savouring life’s simple pleasures and of focussing on people, rather than tasks. We look forward to welcoming you!!
