Land & Building Database Administrator
The Land & Building Database Administrator provides support to the Economic Development Officer. The individual is responsible for identifying each commercial and industrial property (occupied or vacant) and research the unique characteristics of each. This information will then be accumulated in a regional database for easy reference by staff.
SKILL AND EFFORT:
Education and Experience
- In pursuit of post-secondary education with co-op experience in a related field.
- A self-motivated, highly organized individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with the public.
- Working knowledge of GIS (geographic information system) is highly preferred
- Must be capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Complete familiarity working with MS Office and Google Docs.
- Previous Municipal or economic development experience considered an asset.
Mental and Physical Effort
- This position experiences frequent interruptions and mental stress resulting from multiple demands dealing with the public.
- Exposure to a fairly significant level of interruptions to respond to non-standard immediate information needs that often demand very short time frames.
- Carries out tasks requiring a reasonable degree of concentration on a variety of activities and the infrequent use of analytical methods.
- The Land & Building Database Administrator is required to perform mostly administrative duties as well as infrequent handling and moving of equipment, boxes etc. As a result, the individual requires minimal physical skills, stamina and effort.
- Work involves fine co-ordination where the employee is required to perform tasks that demand the accurate co-ordination of fine movements, where speed is a secondary consideration.
- Significant motor skills are required on a daily basis for maintaining the database systems.
- Work is usually standardized and the employee works under occasional supervision but has some choices of action within limits defined by standard practices. The employee may make decisions on quality, accuracy and scheduling of work
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Using a combination of existing print and electronic zoning maps, identify the commercial and industrial properties within Rural Oxford.
- Work in cooperation with real estate specialists and economic development staff to determine key information on each property, including owner, address, lot size, building size, zoning, property value, available services, etc.
- Capture aerial image of each property/building.
- Typing and processing correspondence, reports, forms, charts, etc. as directed, including the preparation of standard correspondence for the Economic Development Officer.
- Act as customer service representative, by placing and answering the telephone calls and emails, dealing with supplying general information.

- Work involves frequent contact with the public.
- Requires mental concentration on the details of the information being handled.
- Some of the work results in exposure to moderate degrees of stress such as dealing with unresponsive people, meeting definite but adjustable deadlines, regular, but not constant interruptions, etc.
- The individual in this position is rarely, if ever, exposed to the discomfort of working outdoors in rain, heat, etc.
